Ann Elizabeth Dickson DeBirk, 46, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father March 18, 2001 after a courageous nine-year battle with Lupus. She was valiant to the end when she was set free from the pain that wracked her weary body. Ann was born June 20, 1954 in Salt Lake City to Don and Myra Dickson. She married John DeBirk December 15, 1976. Their marriage was solemnized October 26, 1991 in the Salt Lake Temple Ann was cherished by her loving husband, who stayed by her side, offering comfort, support and love for 24 years. Together they raised three beautiful children, who dearly loved their mother and who were a source of great pride and joy for her: the gentle spirited activist, Rob, 21; the warm hearted Michael, 18; and the beautiful and bright Joanna, 16. Their mother gave them her gentle soul and wisdom, her love of all things beautiful; her craving for knowledge; and her healing wonderlust. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Utah, with a degree in business, Ann's love of learning provided her lifelong pleasure. Ann was a caring, generous and nurturing wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She touched many lives and was indeed rich in love. Ann loved to travel and saw much of the world before making her final journey. She was a quiet community activist who worked tirelessly with her waning energy to make the community she loved a healthier, safer and more just one. She was a past president of the Canyon Rim Community Council and was deeply concerned about all the toxins in the environment, having been a victim of living downwind. Ann was strengthened and sustained in her battles by her deep and abiding faith in the gospel. She was a well-loved teacher and leader in the LDS Church, taking great pleasure in her calling as a gospel doctrine teacher. She had a strong testimony and a great love for the scriptures and her Savior, which were a constant source of comfort. Ann loved nature and enjoyed taking long walks. She was rejuvenated by them and by the beautiful gardens she saw and those she so carefully grew.
